HOFMEYR NEWS - Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality’s executive mayor, Madoda Papiyana, led a delegation to visit Hofmeyr - Ward 34 of this municipality - to conduct an assessment of service delivery challenges and outline infrastructure projects to be implemented in this ward. The municipality falls under the Chris Hani District Municipality.
The installation of streetlights commenced on 12 February, (read Woman raped and stabbed to death, 20 May 2023), as well as the installation of another high mast security light.
The general condition of streets in the Eluxolweni and Twinsville areas was inspected, and a grader arrived on 12 February to address these issues. Discussions regarding the poor state of the R401 gravel route to Tarkastad were held, and decisions will soon be published.
The mayor requested that ineffective ward committees and management systems be addressed, saying that workers who do not comply with expectations will be evicted. The leadership of the local Council of Churches was also discussed, and questions were answered.
Councillor Buti Quqa also reported that residents were addressed by the mayor regarding good behavioral ethics at all times, including during times of public display. He also stated that stakeholders should be people with strong leadership skills to accompany the community during decision-making.
The planning of the Executive Mayor's Sports Tournament attracted many positive reactions from the community and plans to upgrade the current sports arena were met with jubilation. Sadly, the current state of the water affairs in Hofmeyr was not addressed (read the article I have voted since 1994, but I still have no running water, 8 March 2023).
