GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - As soon as they put down their pens after writing their last exam on Wednesday morning 1 December, Union High School's 2021 matrics – the school's newest alumni – put their school shoes on their desks to be donated to those less fortunate.
This has become a popular way for Union's Grade 12s to give back at the end of their high school careers.
Union marketing and fundraising coordinator, Mariëtte Burger said, "As we watched the matriculants leave the school in high spirits - either barefoot, in flip flops, or wearing only their socks - our hearts swelled.
"At Union, we strive to cultivate a culture of giving among our learners and seeing so many pairs of shoes and knowing the importance they hold for the underprivileged, make us very proud of our learners."
