GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Cell phones certainly make life and communication easier and can be useful in combatting crime, calling for assistance and banking.
However, they are addictive tools that in many cases control our lives. Does your cell phone control your life, or are you in control of your cell phone?
Cell phones have invaded our society and intrude on our time. Or rather, we allow them to. How many of us answer our cell phones when we're spending real time with someone, or in a meeting, or while working or resting? Like anything in life, we can either moderate its pleasure or use, or we can sell our souls to it.
There was an interesting article in April's edition of Time Magazine titled, "Technology – The Masters of Mind Control". I quote from this article, "The field, which draws on advances in neuroscience and behavioural psychology, has fuelled the creation of thousands of apps, interfaces and devices that deliberately encourage certain human behaviours (keep scrolling) while discouraging others (convey thoughtful, nuanced ideas)." The article also included some shocking statistics: We spend an average of 5 hours per day on our cell phones & check them on average 47 times a day. An astounding 89% of people check their phones within an hour of waking up.
What happened to waking-up and enjoying a quiet time with our Creator before our day begins? Almighty God cannot be reached by cell phone!
The human brain is far more powerful than technology. If we all decide to use our cell phones only when necessary, then human health and society will benefit.
As we exercise our self-discipline, we will avoid being influenced by persuasive technology, also known as, mind control tactics.
Only you can decide whether you want to play the vulnerable victim or the intelligent individual. So, decide to decide right!
