GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Lazola Thembelani Ndulula (32) was sentenced to life imprisonment on 18 September, for the murder of Cradock resident Thembikile James Klaas (53).
Ndulula, who appeared in the Cradock Regional Court, was also sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for robbery and three years imprisonment for escape from lawful custody.
According to Capt Lariane Jonker, spokesperson for the Cradock SAPS, Ndulula was found guilty of the murder of Thembikile James Klaas (53), who's body was found with multiple stab wounds in the Great Fish River on 28 February 2018. Klaas had been reported missing a few days prior to police finding his body.
On 4 March 2018, the victim's car was spotted and recovered by the Grahamstown Flying Squad on the N2 between Grahamstown and Seven Fountains.
"The accused ran away and was arrested on 5 March 2018," said Jonker. "He was positively linked to the murder of Klaas as well as the hijacking of his vehicle. While awaiting his court appearance, he escaped from custody."
Ndulula was re-arrested on 24 April 2018 by investigating officer, D/Const Siya Ntsimanga, in Fort Beaufort. The sentences of robbery and escape from lawful custody will run concurrent with the life sentence.
