GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Alex Laing Community Hall at Kroonvale was fully packed as the community of Graaff-Reinet and surrounding areas bid farewell to Marie 'Mammie' Afrika.
Afrika was born on 20 March 1963 and died on 29 June at the Netcare Greenacres in Gqeberha after a very short illness. She was an enrolled nurse at the Midland Hospital in Graaff-Reinet for the past 17 years.
Afrika will always be remembered as a soft-spoken and God-fearing person and a unifier of her family.
"It is two months ago that 'Mammie' left us, and life has not been normal for us. The house is empty and cold without her," her husband Daniel Steyn said.
She leaves behind her husband, two daughters, three grandchildren and family. They thanked the community, her colleagues, family and friends for their unwavering support.
