GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Due to Covid-19 regulations that prohibit soup kitchens, two community stakeholders from Graaff-Reinet have joined forces with donors, churches and farmers to provide food to those less fortunate.
Resident Sakkie van Zyl and ward councillor Ricardo Smith have managed to gather 30 food parcels for five days per week to 20 different churches, of which each parcel is valued at around R100.
Parcels are given to a different church each week to ensure fairness. The project has also extended to Nieu-Bethesda and Aberdeen, and vegetables have been donated to children's homes and retirement homes.
"We also gave around 80 Covid-19 screening staff members in the horseshoe area lunch for four days, with the help of Spar and Pick n Pay," said Van Zyl.
The team thanked all the donors for their contribution in making the project a success.
