GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - There were a total of 57 arrests made by Graaff-Reinet SAPS last week, with 19 of these being for the so-called minor offences of being drunk and disorderly (15), drinking in public (3) and one traffic violation.

There was one arrest for murder, nine for assault GBH and four for common assault, six for housebreaking and theft, five for theft and five for robbery. One suspect was also apprehended for shoplifting.

One arrest was made for each of the following offences: on a warrant of arrest, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen goods, and stock theft. Three were also arrested on interdict.

In court, two good convictions were secured. For attempted murder, the accused was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment, and for assault, a sentence of four years' imprisonment was handed down.

This week's confiscations include seven Okapi knives, one tik straw, one dagga bompie, 1.5 Mandrax tablets, 350g dagga, and an iron crowbar.
