GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The body that was found in a water furrow in Stockenstroom Street in Graaff-Reinet's Horseshoe on Monday afternoon, January 1, has been identified as that of 47-year-old nurse Frieda Rogers.
Rogers worked at the ACCV Huis van de Graaff home for the aged in Stockenstroom Street.
She had reported as normal for her nightshift on Sunday evening, to work from 19:00 that night until 07:00 the next morning.
The police are interviewing witnesses to ascertain what time she left on Monday, and if possible to trace her movements that morning.
Her body was found in the water furrow at about 15:00 on Monday afternoon, and according to witnesses she was still wearing her uniform. It is not known at this stage how long her body had been lying there.
Various stories are circulating about the condition of her body, but the police are unwilling to comment until the results of Tuesday morning’s post mortem examination have been released.
For the present, an inquest document has been opened.
