GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - To commemorate Child Protection Week - that was held from 27 May to 3 June this year - Government Communications and Information Systems (GCIS) in Graaff-Reinet partnered with various government departments and NGOs to hold an awareness session at Lingcom Primary School in Graaff-Reinet on Friday morning, 1 June.
This was held to inform the school's children about their rights and also to promote a culture of no child-on-child violence.
Following the session, Angelo September, a learner from Lingcom Primary, said, "this week is important so that people can know about protecting children and not hurting them. Parents must listen to us and we must also listen to them."
The theme of this year's Child Protection Week was 'Stand up, be committed and protect a child'. It is a call to all South Africans to stand up and protect our children, to be committed in the fight to end all forms of abuse against children.
