ABERDEEN NEWS - Last week, there was great concern among members of the Aberdeen community on a neighbourhood watch group, after a man, with what appeared to be criminal intent, was seen first in Church Street trying to remove a security gate.
He was scared away when a neighbour spotted him, and then soon was seen trying to climb over the wall into a property in Jackson Street. This time he was seen by the owner of the property, and jumped down and ran off.
The police were contacted, and a patrol spotted the man. He was identified as Ricardo Klassen, recently released from prison after serving time for housebreaking and theft.
According to one member of the community, the 36-year-old has been in jail on and off since he left school, for housebreaking and robbery offences. Unfortunately, he ran away across the river, and the SAPS members were unable to apprehend him.
However, the next morning he went into the shop at the Caltex garage and was caught on CCTV camera taking the animal welfare collection tin when the cashier turned her back.
He was arrested, appeared in court, and will be back again this Thursday for a bail application.
