KAROO NEWS - Rhigozum obovatum, better known as Karoo gold, is flowering in the Karoo National Park outside Beaufort West.
The shrub, which doesn't need much water, adds stunning shades of yellow to the drought-stricken area. According to South African National Parks, the flowers started blooming in the rest camp this week, after good rain about two weeks ago.
According to the South African National Biodiversity Institute, the shrub may look drab during a large part of the year but turns into a spectacular sight after first rains in spring or early summer.
When rain is sporadic it may have several flushes of bloom.
