GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The 313 casual workers appointed by the Dr Beyers Naude Municipality Community Services Directorate earlier this year and allocated to different towns within the municipality, are making a visible contribution in the area.
Ten of these workers have been allocated to Rietbron where, according to Gewnynne Hermanus, the Director of Community Services, the municipality previously had only one supervisor and one worker.
Rietbron resident and municipal employee Raymond Solomon says they are thankful for the ten workers.
"We now have enough hands at Community Services to do the work. It is only the hands at Infrastructure that remain slightly problematic, but we assist them whenever necessary," says Solomon. "The graveyards, sports fields and all our parks have been cleaned and the former caravan park has been upgraded."
The appointment of the workers was made possible by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. The workers were initially appointed on a six-month contract, but the contract has been extended for another six months.
Hermanus is proud of the impact of the workers. "It just goes to show what a big difference you can make with innovative approaches and manpower."
