GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Vultures will hopefully be attracted back to the central Karoo, thanks to a new partnership between South African National Parks (SANparks), the Mountain Zebra Camdeboo Protected Environment, Endangered Wildlife Trust, the SANParks Honorary Rangers and Birdlife SA.
"These stakeholders hope to create vulture safe zones, which comes at the perfect time as we head towards International Vulture Awareness Day on Sunday 1 September," said SANparks Regional Spokesperson Fayroush Ludick.
For those interested in finding out how to support this initiative, Dr Gareth Tate from the EWT’s Birds of Prey Programme will headline a special presentation on vulture safe zones in Graaff-Reinet on Wednesday 14 August.
The venue is the Boardroom at the Botanics Sports Field at 10am. The programme will also include guest speaker, Cobus Theron from the EWT Drylands Conservation Programme. He will present on the Karoo as the new conservation frontier, including their sustainable land management initiative, riverine rabbits and Karoo dwarf tortoises.
