GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The finals of the Graaff Reinet Talent Show was held last Saturday, 30 June, and ended off on a high note.
As well as the contestants and guest singers, the organisers were thrilled to secure the appearance of the famous Mr Afrika, Mawande Qeqe, who was the guest speaker and the chief guest of honour.
The audience was entertained by all the contestants, as well as very talented guest singers, Nerike van der Merwe, Melissa van der Nest, Adele Cronje, Alicia van Gent and Natalie Anthony. The Sarafina dancers also performed some amazing dance routines.
The organisers would like to congratulate all the contestants, as they were all winners for having the courage and guts to go up on stage and perform with confidence in front of so many judging eyes.
The judges were Mawande Qeqe, Natalie Anthony, and Angela Matondolo, and they had a very difficult job to select just three winners. After much discussion, Mr Afrika announced the top three. DMC was crowned as winners, with Britney as runner-up. The Wessels Sisters were voted into third place.
This whole competition was not easy to plan, and the arrangements did not always run smoothly, but everyone involved worked hard to make it a success and a very enjoyable few days.
The organisers would also like to express their gratitude to Mr Afrika for being the guest speaker, as well as Johan du Plessis, who on short notice handled the music as well as acting as MC. Tammy du Plessis was the photographer, and also coordinated the event and constantly communicated with everyone to make sure the event ran as smoothly as it could.
Final thanks were given all those who supported the events, whether by competing, appearing as guest artists, or making up the audience.
