GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Department of Health’s Camdeboo Sub-District office in Graaff-Reinet has been closed with immediate effect, and 14 workers placed under self-isolation, after a health promotion worker of the establishment tested positive for Covid-19.
The woman, a resident of Graaff-Reinet, is the first confirmed Covid-19 patient of the town.
This was confirmed to the Advertiser by Eastern Cape Department of Health Spokesperson, Siyanda Manana. According to Manana, the woman was responsible for promotion work and training at medical centres and institutions across the Camdeboo district, including Willowmore, Rietbron, Klipplaat, Somerset East and surrounding towns.
The woman’s test came back positive on Monday 27 April. According to a statement by the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality on Tuesday, the patient’s direct contacts were traced and tested. Manana said more tests will be conducted.
It is unclear at this stage if the woman performed her duties while awaiting her test results. The Advertiser is awaiting more information from Manana on the matter.
The public is advised to call the coronavirus hotline on 0800 029 999 with any suspected case of corona, or to report or obtain information relevant to the pandemic.
