GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Museum bagged second place in the International Museum Day (IMD) exhibition competition in Makanda on Monday and Tuesday.
Their spekboom (portulacaria afra) exhibition – how it cleans the air and reduces our carbon footprint – drew significant interest and praise from the adjudicators and audience.
“Our display certainly adhered to the theme of IMD 2023 – Museums, sustainability and well-being,” says Anziske Kayster, manager of the Graaff-Reinet Museum.
The museum’s prizes include a laptop, an advertising billboard and a trip to Lower Saxony in Germany! “We would like to extend huge congratulations to our exhibition team and every single staff member who ensured our second place,” says Kayster.
“We also extend gratitude to graphic designer Nicola Woods of Country Mouse Design, BlueSky who printed our panels in record time, Rachel's Garden who supplied spekboom lotion and soap, Union High School for their freebie spekboom stand, and Boundless for our spekboom kudu heads.”
The spekboom exhibition will become a permanent installation at Urquhart House, to augment its historical spekboom garden planted in the shape of the Union Jack flag.
The Graaff-Reinet Museum's spekboom exhibition drew significant interest and praise.
