GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The town of Graaff-Reinet is saddened by the recent passing of Northern Cape MEC of Education, MacCollen Jack, who was born and bred in Graaff-Reinet.
In a statement by the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality (DBNLM), Mayor Deon de Vos sent his heartfelt condolences to the Jack family. “May his soul rest in peace,” De Vos said in the statement.
MacCollen, known among locals as ‘Mac Jack’, attended Thembalesizwe Primary School, after which he attended Nqweba High School and moved to Fort Beaufort to complete his schooling.
"He never forgot his roots, as himself and a foundation was in discussions with DBNLM to roll-out a project in Umasizakhe and Nieu-Bethesda,” De Vos added. “We are in the process of finalising community profiles of these areas for the MEC, and must now ensure we stay committed to this project and make his wish a reality.”
According to a report by The Citizen, Jack died in hospital on 12 August after being admitted to hospital last week. Although he was in good spirits and seemed to recover, his health took a bad turn.
“The departure [Jack] is a major setback to the education sector and the people of Northern Cape. I share your grief,” said Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.
