GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Two families recently lost everything when fires destroyed their homes, but Graaff-Reinet residents stepped in proving that locals still care.
The Real Housewives of Graaff-Reinet donated blankets, clothes, and other necessities to a family whose shack in the Vrygronde informal settlement burned down in June.
The group are eleven women who initially came together to support one another but later took on projects to make a difference in the community.
Councilors Ricardo Smith and Sakkie van Zyl, together with the Chairperson of the Ward Committee for Ward 6, Alice Mamfundisi, also donated to the Vrygronde family and more recently van Zyl delivered more food supplies. According to Smith, they visit the family regularly and are now trying to assist with building material for the construction of a new shack. Residents who would like to contribute can contact Smith on 060 363 4208.
Councillor Joy Williams assisted a family whose shack burned down in the backyard of a property in Rietbok Street in Ward 4. They need assistance with blankets, food, clothes for the three children, and building material.
DA MP and Dr Beyers Naude Constituency Leader, Samantha Graham- Maré donated a hamper to the family that also contained blankets and jerseys that her mother, Dallis Graham, had knitted.
