KAROO NEWS - Councillor Xolile Galada and Maureen Malaya will appear in court again on 17 October for their alleged involvement in the unlawful invasion of municipal property situated between Merino and Aster streets in Kroonvale, Graaff-Reinet.
The Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality applied for a final interdict to prohibit and restrain them from inciting seven unidentified persons or any other person to enter and take up residence on that specific municipal property.
Three people who already took up residence on the property in June, Freek Adams, Geraldine Moorman and Portia Moos, will also appear in court on the same day.
The municipality applied for an eviction order since, according to Municipal Manager Edward Rankwana, the property is not suitable for the development of residential properties as it has not been zoned for that purpose.
In addition, there are no facilities to provide electricity, water, and sewerage services. Rankwana stated that alternative land for the establishment of an informal settlement has been made available at Riemvasmaak and, in terms of the eviction order application, these respondents are expected to take up residence there.
