GRAAFF-REINET NEWS & VIDEO - The first day of a school career started on Wednesday morning for hundreds of Grade One learners in Graaff-Reinet.
At Graaff-Reinet Primary School, principal William Hector waited for the learners long before 7am. In his office, he told the Advertiser that they expect 108 grade one learners to pitch up for their first school day.
Kroonvale Primary’s Grade One teacher, Imelda Tyler, said 111 Grade One learners were registered to report to school.
At Laer Volkskool, youngster Kobus Lötter said he wants to become intelligent. Merlin Kitchu said she’s going to work hard, while Jeraldo Groener said he doesn’t know what he’s going to do and learn yet.

Volkskool took in 57 new Grade one learners. Unsure of what awaited them, the children sat close to their parents before they were divided up in classes. Those brave enough to take on their first school day without a parent or guardian by their side quickly made new friends.
