GRAAFF-REINET NEWS AND VIDEO - Teachers at Graaff-Reinet Primary this morning (8 June) were just as excited as the Grade Seven learners to be back at school.
The normal rush onto the school premises was slowed down, with teachers and support staff manning tables at the entrance, where everyone's temperature was measured and questionnaires completed, as required by the Department of Education.
Twenty-four teachers, together with headmaster William Hector, awaited the 96 registered learners. Classes were slowly filled, as the screening process was ongoing at the entrance.
With the designated social distance between all, four masks per learner and built-in sanitising holders in each class, the children were first taught about the safety procedures, before the revised 2020 curriculum was taken on.
Hector said before the school opened, the children kept on asking when they can come back to school. Hector described it as a positive indication for both educators and learners, that the rest of the school year will be a success story.
Hector also indicated that the department fulfilled its promise of funding food for the learners.
According to the headmaster, the school is only three weeks behind on the curriculum. He said home-schooling via social media was a great benefit to the learners and helped them stay on track.
