GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - As lockdown continues and the Nqweba Dam only at 16.84%, Graaff-Reinet farmers are still feeling the bitter brunt of a devastating drought.
On Tuesday 15 September, emerging farmers from the Graaff-Reinet area received a much-needed gift of cabbages for their pigs by Gift of the Givers. Director of this NGO, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, was in Graaff-Reinet on Tuesday to assist with delivering a truckload of cabbages to the pig farmers of the area.
Zola Hanabe, Chairperson of the Emerging Farmers Association in Graaff-Reinet, reached out to Gift of the Givers. Hanabe said Gift of the Givers' assistance is immeasurable, and they regularly assist emerging farmers with water and lucerne for their cattle.
The cabbages they received will assist with feeding their starving pigs and other livestock.
According to Sooliman, Gift of the Givers has also assisted farmers from Willowmore, Rietbron, Klipplaat and Steytlerville in the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality area.
