CRADOCK NEWS - The man (54) suspected of the murder of Tazne van Wyk (8) from Ravensmead, was arrested in Cradock this week.
The arrest was made by intelligence detectives, and Cradock Police members, supporting two Cape-based detectives.
Tazne’s body was found hidden in a storm water drain in Worcester on the evening of 19 February after the suspect took police to the location.
The victim went missing from her Elsies River home two weeks ago.
The suspect was released on parole in October 2016, after he was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment in 2008 for culpable homicide.
According to Correctional Services Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo, the suspect was placed under correctional supervision but declared absconder on 6 February 2019. “We visited his home several times until 6 February, but he was gone,” Nxumalo said.
Western Cape SAPS Communication Official, Brig. Novela Potelwa, did not want to say if the suspect lived in Cradock, or whether he was with family or friends at the time of his arrest.
An official inquiry was sent to Nxumalo by the Advertiser on 21 February, to inquire about the suspect’s criminal history.
He appeared briefly in the Goodwood Magistrate’s court today. The case was postponed to 17 April.
This is an ongoing story.
