ABERDEEN NEWS - The application to register Aberdeen Monica's Day Care (AMD), was made more than a year ago, and on Friday 9 June the founding members and committee held their first official meeting at Locals@Villieria in Aberdeen at the AMD Centre.
Founder Monica Webster approached Rudy Jacobs, the deputy chairperson of the District Education Forum for the Sarah Baartman District in February 2022, to assist in registering the AMD as an Early Childhood Development Non-Profit Organisation (ECD-NPO).
"Aiming to develop the day care into a ECD centre, it also had to be registered as an NPO with the Department of Social Development. This is a first for Aberdeen," says Jacobs.
Webster has run the AMD as a home-based day care since 2018 and Jacobs, elected as chairperson, says although the registration has taken more than a year, this is the first step towards a proper ECD centre for all children from Aberdeen.
The registered committee members are Rudy Jacobs (chairperson), Debbie Blaai (vice chairperson), Tselane Mirriam Webster (treasurer), Linda Gouws (secretary), Monwabisi Skosana (vice treasurer) and Nomathasanqa Kaptein (vice-secretary).
