GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) will pay a visit to Graaff-Reinet on Monday 11 May, and residents are invited to donate blood between 11am and 4pm.
The blood drive will take place at Te Watersaal, and hopes to welcome at least 50 donors.
According to Zikhona Ruiters, Donor Relations Practitioner for SANBS, blood donors are screened for Covid-19 before entering blood donation clinics, and entry is only allowed if answers are satisfactory.
SANBS staff are also screened daily, and all donors are sprayed with hand sanitiser before entering the donation area.
Ruiters added that the following safety measures have also been put in place:
- All SANBS hand sanitisers and disinfectant products are independently laboratory tested to ensure efficacy.
- Social distancing is encouraged through floor signs and staff who will intervene if sufficient space is not adhered to.
- SANBS staff wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as surgical gloves, plastic face shields as well as face masks, which are also independently laboratory tested.
- All staff are trained on the correct use and maintenance of the various PPE items.
- Donor beds are disinfected after each donation.
- Donor beds are placed at least two meters apart and SANBS Bus blood drives are limited to one donor per bus at a time, regardless of two beds being available.
