GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The remains of a burnt down house is causing a growing concern among the community of Asherville after an increase in criminal activity have been noticed on the premises.
The house, situated in Asherville’s Fred Hufkie Street, has been at the centre of the surrounding communities concern due to the fact that it has become somewhat of a crime hub for drug users and criminals in the area.
Joy Williams, DA Ward 14 councillor described the situation as a serious one. This matter came to her attention after she approached by numerous residents of the Asherville community.
These residents expressed great fear and anxiety regarding the criminals inhabiting the house.
Some say they are unable to walk to the shop which is opposite the dilapidated house and are fearful to have their children walk to the shop as well because of the increase in muggings and theft of both children and adults.
Councillor Williams is seeking assistance in resolving this issue before any more serious harm is done to the community.
