GRAAFF-REINET NEWS AND VIDEO - Mayor Deon De Vos has come down hard on Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality officials saying their non-compliance reflects negatively on Council.
"People are referring to Council as Hollywood. We as councillors must serve the people, but if the officials don't do their work, we cannot perform," De Vos said in his opening speech at a special council meeting on 30 January.
He emphasised that officials are appointed to do their work properly and warned that lawlessness and indiscipline within the municipality must immediately come to a stop.
As the head of administration, Municipal Manager Dr Eddie Rankwana, was tasked to deal with all non-compliance.

De Vos also focused on the drought. "The drought is not going to leave us soon. We are in for a long haul," he said.
He asked that the municipality educate people on drought issues, saying the Provincial Government has all eyes on the local municipality's plan of action for dealing with the drought.
"Our plan will become the master plan for other municipalities in the Eastern Cape," De Vos said.
