GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Refuse: The Mandela day clean-up project initiated by GRRPA is gathering momentum with stakeholders getting involved.
The Beyers Naudé municipal officials are making plans as are the councillors. At the local Chamber of Commerce's AGM on 29 May businesses were asked to participate and there were those who showed willing.
For ideas on what is needed or how you, your family, your business, your department, your school, your church, your organisation can help, please email Lucricia Jackson at jacksonl@bnlm.gov.za or GRRPA at info@grt-ratepayers.co.za.

Misdaad:
The SAPS expects municipal law enforcement to act first. This is failing with hawkers, car guards, taxis and spaza shops taking the law into their own hands. It is necessary for the municipality to liaise with the police. There was no coordination over the recent bike rally.
Community Police Forums exist in all the towns but are not well supported by the communities. Social media is helping the police with dates of Graaff-Reinet CPF meetings advertised and an arrest had been made - thanks to information on social media.
A councillor asked SAPS for help in establishing a neighbourhood watch. GRRPA plans a meeting in August about crime and establishing neighbourhood watches.
All crimes or suspected crimes should be reported to the police.
