CRADOCK NEWS - According to Cradock nursing personnel, they have decided to embark on a strike last night, 16 September, since their annual increases and incentives were not paid.
They will continue to strike until the money which is due to them has been paid. Based on paramedic reports only two doctors, together with a single matron, were available at the OPD section in this particular hospital last night.
This situation is expected to persist.
The Cradock Provincial Hospital is not the only affected hospital. Nursing personnel at a number of other hospitals in the province are also either striking or planning to strike.
Yesterday afternoon the Midland Hospital in Graaff-Reinet also saw nursing staff gathering in front of the hospital in protest about the unpaid money.
A solution to this matter needs to be reached as soon as possible to prevent loss of life due to the absence of nursing staff.
