GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Government Communications and Information System (GCIS), in partnership with the Department of Health, rounded off the Eastern Cape Mobile Truck Activation for Covid-19 vaccination awareness in Graaff-Reinet at the Umasizakhe Soccer Field on Tuesday.
This forms part of the countrywide government awareness campaign on Covid-19 vaccination registration.
Phase 2 of the Covid-19 vaccinate roll-out is in full swing in the entire Eastern Cape.
On 15 June Graaff-Reinet Midlands Hospital started with the process of vaccinating persons aged 60 years and above and is currently still vaccinating more elderly.
To further harness the message of Covid-19 vaccination, GCIS embarked on these mobile truck roadshows in order to empower communities on how to register persons aged 60 years and above for Covid-19 vaccination.
A depiction of the Covid-19 vaccination registration process was done through a drama performance scripted by GCIS and performed by a local drama group from the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Trust. Residents were empowered on how to access and utilise the various platforms of the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) to register senior citizens aged 60 years and above for Covid-19 vaccination.
In the welcoming remarks, the Executive Mayor of Dr Beyers Naude, Deon de Vos, encouraged the youth and the entire community to be active in registering senior citizens for vaccination as it will help more elderly to get vaccinated.
Alluding to some of the myths about the Covid-19 vaccine making rounds in the Graaff-Reinet area, De Vos urged the community to seek valid facts about the vaccine from reliable sources such as the Department of Health.
Khunjuzwa Eunice Kekana, Executive Mayor of the Sarah Baartman District, gave a Covid-19 vaccination testimonial to dispel the myths surrounding the Covid-19 vaccination indicating that she was left with a few more days to go until she receives her second dose of vaccine. "I encourage every senior citizen to please register to get vaccinated for Covid-19. I am a living testimony that the vaccine is not fatal," said Kekana.
Local talent from The New Loc Records performed some items to entrain the crowd during the activation. The Young men promised to be active in spreading the government message to get senior citizens registered for Covid-19 vaccination.
