EASTERN CAPE NEWS - The Eastern Cape Legislature (ECL) reduced the number of employees in the legislature precinct to minimise person-to-person contact.
Lwandile Sicwetsha , Communication Official for the ECL this afternoon said the decision is in line with State of Disaster guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The decision means that the public will not be able to access the Legislature from 23 March until 13 April. "During this period, legislature staff will be allowed to work from home and only critical staff will be allowed to work in the legislature precinct," Sicwetsha said.
The normal working hours will resume on Tuesday, 14 April.
The Speaker of the legislature, MPL Helen Sauls-August has also appealed to the members of the legislature, management and staff not to travel outside the borders of the Eastern Cape, unless it is a personal emergency.
Sauls August apologised to the public for any inconvenience that may be caused by the prevention measures.
The legislature will also make information available on coronavirus at the Parliamentary Constituency Offices throughout the province.
