EASTERN CAPE NEWS - The first Covid-19 related death has been recorded in the Eastern Cape, after a retired nurse died at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth.
Eastern Cape Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba told HeraldLive on Thursday that the woman (66) is believed to have contracted the virus at a funeral in KwaDesi.
The woman was from Uitenhage.
Eastern Cape Department of Health Spokesperson, Siyanda Manana, has been approached by the Advertiser for comment.
According to the Health Department of South Africa on 9 April, there were 1 934 confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Africa, of which 61 were in the Eastern Cape.
