NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — Ward 2 DA councillor for Nieu-Bethesda, Pienaarsig and Graaff-Reinet, Linda Botha, is a busy woman who is passionate about uplifting the lives of the people in her Ward.
A day in her life includes attending high-level meetings and making policy decisions, but she also takes the time to visit the small village of Nieu-Bethesda which is close to her heart.
Working frenetically behind the scenes and travelling vast distances, Councillor Botha has worked tirelessly with the people here in a village that is easily forgotten as it is way off the beaten track.
Realising that communication is a problem for people who do not have access to the internet or airtime, Botha makes it her mission to visit regularly, and has established critical lines of communication with the villagers and township folk.
During May and June, she visited folk to assist with Indigent Applications, attended public meetings, has been instrumental in trying to solve the problem of the horrendous state of the road, has followed up on the state of the municipal dump and is actively monitoring the progress of the housing issue in Pienaarsig.
On Mandela Day Councillor Botha arrived in Nieu-Bethesda to deliver winter accessories and biscuits to the elderly. For a few months now, a group of wonderful Graaff-Reinet knitters have been making warm beanies, gloves, jerseys and scarves in a bid to stave off the freezing winter temperatures.
This past Monday Botha visited Sneeuwitjie creche and Lettie de Klerk school to hand over more than 400 handmade items to the children. In an inspirational talk at an open air assembly, Linda Botha spoke of people from our community and beyond who have used their God-given talents to rise above difficult circumstances that they were born into.
She spoke of Nelson Mandela, Lucas Radebe, Trevor Noah and those from closer to home such as Sulette Damons and Elton Jantjies who have used their talents to become phenomenal successes.mar
The people of Nieu-Bethesda are grateful for the efforts of Councillor Botha who is doing all she can to make a difference to their lives.
