GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Peer Educators and students at the Graaff-Reinet SAPS Academy showed their sympathy towards cancer patients, survivors, and those who lost the battle against cancer.
On Wednesday morning 30 October, approximately 200 students and instructors, dressed in pink and with pink ribbons all over them, walked from the Academy on Church Street, around the Groot Kerk circle, and back towards the Academy.
Natasha Schreuder, Chairperson of the Graaff-Reinet SAPS Women's Network Committee, said each year different sections of the Academy organise an event towards cancer awareness. Under command of Lieutenant Colonel Alicia Adams, the peer Educators this year were tasked to do their awareness campaign. They decided on an awareness walk through town, via Church and Caledon Streets.
The members also displayed posters as part of the awareness campaign. The one poster read, "Never give up. Life is worth living. There is life after cancer."
Schreuder described their task as a huge success and well organised.
Maxie van Aswegen, Chairperson of the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association, said association appreciates the gesture. "It means a lot to us and the patients." She thanked the SAPS Women's Network Committee by saying the academy made it more special by doing it during Breast Cancer Awareness Month."
