GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A Christmas lights extravaganza staged in Kroonvale's Acacia Street during December, saw hundreds of visitors flock to the area to witness the festive illuminations.
The dazzling array of fairy lights and decorations put on display by the residents of this street raises thousands every year in aid of the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association.
This year was no different.
Last week, the Acacia Street committee presented a cheque to the value of R33 000 to the members of the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association.
"Once again we were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of everyone involved in organising the event and support of the general public," said Allan Hoffman, a member of the Acacia Street committee.
"Raising R33 000 for the local cancer association is a great achievement and I'd like to thank the organising committee, everyone who contributed by way of donations, and, of course, the street's residents who have made this possible."
The Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association expressed their gratitude for all the hard work, dedication and commitment put in by the organisers of this event, as well as for the generous donations made by locals and tourists who visited the street.
"These funds will now be used to assist our local cancer patients in many ways, from travelling costs to food parcels, meals, sleepwear, bedding or a beautiful bunch of flowers," enthused Margie Parkes, a spokesperson for the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association.
"Thank you for doing this for those diagnosed with cancer in this town and its surrounds and most importantly, thank you for letting them know that they do not walk their journey alone.
Delight as a cheque worth R33 000 is presented to the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association by members of the Acacia Street committee.
