KAROO NEWS - Children in Asherville joined hands with the Singaphezulu Ngabe Yisi project on Monday morning to collect plastic cooldrink bottles for recycling.
The project focuses on entertaining and developing children during the holidays. Project manager Laughton Hoffman says that the project aims to keep the children busy with programmes such as environment cleaning, trail walking and sport days.
The recycling bottles will be exchanged for sport equipment and entertaining for the children.
The Summer Strikers and Young Stars football clubs are also keeping their players busy over the holiday, "We want to keep them off the streets and to also let them have a nice Christmas," says Young Stars coach Helmien Stuurman.
Singaphezulu (more than conquerors) was established by Geraldine Moos, with the help of women from the community.
Moos also aims to combat and alleviate poverty by training women in baking, catering and basic business management. She started her career in the hospitality industry and later established the Singaphezulu Ngabeyisi project based on her experience in the catering business. They also assist kids with their homework, especially in numeracy and literacy.
