GRAAFF-REINET SPORT NEWS - On Saturday afternoon Central Rugby Club faced Aberdeen on the grounds of the Botanics in Graaff-Reinet in a vital game of the EP Grand Challenge Super League.
There was a sense of expectancy in the air and Aberdeen supporters had come in their droves to support their team.
After a gruelling first half, where neither side gave a quarter, the score was 0 - 0.
The second half continued in the same vein until a 10-minute 'sin bin' card was given to an Aberdeen player, however, Central couldn't make use of this player advantage.
Then came the game change, Central attacked Aberdeen's 25. Aberdeen's loose forwards did well to grab possession of the ball, and passed to their solid flyhalf, who kicked for touch. The backs charged up and were outmanoeuvred by a wicked bounce of the ball. A Central backline player was in the right place at the right time, snatched the ball and raced 30 meters to score an opportunistic, but vital try, which was successfully converted.
Aberdeen turned on the pressure for a sustained period, but the Central defense held to record and won Aberdeen 7 - 0. Central now has 19 league points.
