KAROO NEWS - Marking its 25th anniversary, the Camdeboo Hospice in Graaff-Reinet celebrated with a gala held on 26 September at the panoramic South African College for Tourism (SACT).
Spectacular views saw guests relaxing and admiring the beauty of the surroundings.
Camdeboo Hospice chairperson Gerald Buisman eloquently welcomed all who attended before introducing the Grey Symphonic Wind Band from Grey High School in Gqeberha.
Band conductors Shawn Lyon and Taigo Vital swept the audience away with skilful compositions and impressed them with the 68 young artists' mastery of their instruments. Just before intermission, the band played a Led Zeppelin compilation that kept the audience captive throughout its 10-minute duration.
Trainees and staff of the SACT treated guests to a delicious three-course meal.
The intermission allowed for catching up with old friends and sharing stories of the amazing work the Camdeboo Hospice has been doing in the community over the past 25 years. Founding member Ira Maasdorp and her husband Charles were also in attendance along with steadfast supporters of the organisation.
Funds generated from this event will be put to good use keeping the Hospice open and able.
The evening programme continued after dinner with more musical excellence. The event was a roaring success and everybody hopes to see many more such celebrations for an organisation that has the community's well-being at the very core of its objectives.
