GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — There is a concern in Graaff-Reinet that two recent break-ins have left health facilities without any backup in the event of a power failure.
The first incident occurred at the Bree Street day clinic in Asherville, on the night of the August 31.
When the generator room was checked in the morning, it was discovered that seven locks had been removed from the door, and a battery, valued at R2 500, had been taken.
Almost a week later, a similar instance was reported at the mortuary near Midland Hospital.
When the employees left work on Friday, September 8, all was in order. On arrival the following Monday morning, it was found that cables had been stolen, as well as the battery for the generator, all valued at R5 000.
This is a very worrying situation, as, should there be a power failure for any reason, the mortuary would rely on the generator to maintain the temperature.
Patients at the day clinic would also not be able to receive a full range of services without power.
