GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality's Ward 4 councillor, Xolile Galada is appealing to the community of Graaff-Reinet to aid victims of house fires with any form of donations.
Ward 4 consists of areas such as Umasizakhe, Sunnyside, Reinet Park, parts of Spandauville and Bergendal.
As the Christmas season gets into full swing, many families from these communities will not experience the festive joy due to these unfortunate and devastating incidents that have left individuals from this community with nothing.
According to Galada, these houses fires have been a regular occurrence in Umasizakhe since his election in August of 2016. At least five families from five households have lost everything in house fires and are now left destitute and at the mercy of community assistance.
Although Galada has knocked on every door for assistance from the municipality as well as the local and provincial offices of the Department of Social Development, his appeal for help has gone seemingly unheeded.
It is for this reason that he has decided to appeal directly to the people and businesses of Graaff-Reinet to come together and pool resources to provide some relief during this trying time.
The following items are desperately needed: any type of furniture, household appliances, blankets, toiletries, food, building supplies (cement etc) and any other items available.
Anyone willing to donate can contact Galada on 060 500 6762 or email him at galadaxolile@gmail.com.
