GRAAFF-REINET NEWS & VIDEO - Emergency services had their hands full with yet another fire raging next to the Urquhart Caravan Park last night (28 January).
Two municipal fire brigade trucks and two bakkies were on the scene, fighting the fire.
Learners from Hoër Volkskool and other bystanders picked up fire hoses to help bring the fire under control. Gift of the Givers also made a water truck and personnel available to help fight the fire.
The fire started at about 7.30 pm.
Following several fires in the area of one of Mackie’s Put’s ponds, the fire sparked metres into the air and became a threat to nearby houses.
It’s alleged that children swimming in the ponds deliberately caused the fires, but this is unconfirmed.
At about 11pm, the fire was under control.
Police Spokesperson, Captain Bradley Rawlinson, said no criminal charges were registered.
