ANC Councillor Willem Safers elected as mayor

Voting for the Chief Whip again ended in deadlock after the ANC Councillor Thembekile Spogter (nominated by the ANC) and EFF Councillor Tracy Plaatjies (nominated by the DA) both received 12 votes.

ANC Councillor Willem Safers elected as mayor
Izak (Sakkie) van Zyl was sworn in as Councillor for the Dr Beyers Naude local municipality at the Special Council Meeting this morning. He replaces Francois de Villiers as PR Councillor for the DA after De Villiers relocated from the Dr Beyers Naude Constituency.

GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - ANC Councillor Willem Safers has been elected mayor of the Dr Beyers Naude local municipality at the Special Council Meeting this morning after someone from the opposition voted with the ANC. 

Cllr Safers received 13 votes against DA Councillor Ewald Loock who received 11 votes. 

Voting for the Chief Whip again ended in deadlock after the ANC Councillor Thembekile Spogter (nominated by the ANC) and EFF Councillor Tracy Plaatjies (nominated by the DA) both received 12 votes. The ANC initially nominated FF+ Councillor Riaan van Heerden as Chief Whip but he declined the nomination.
