GRAAFF-REINET NEWS & VIDEOS - Family and friends of the 19-year-old student, Junade Faulkner from Jeffreys Bay, who was shot and killed last week Monday 8 February in Graaff-Reinet, gathered in front of the Magistrate’s Court in Graaff-Reinet this morning to oppose bail for the alleged killer, Garick Koetaan (40).
They could be seen standing in the rain with t-shirts displaying a picture of Faulkner while chanting "Justice for Junade".
His grieving grandmother was in the crowd outside, while his mother was inside the court. A SRC (Student Representative Council) member of East Cape Midland College, Richard Sokoyi, was also at the court to support the family.
He said he is still in shock about the shooting.
Despite his loved ones’ appeal that no bail be granted, Koetaan was granted bail of R1 500 and the case was postponed to 29 March. The family is very sad and upset that the accused was granted bail.

A service was held for Faulkner by Graaff-Reinet locals on Friday afternoon, 12 February on the corner of Hibiscus- and Breë streets in Santaville where his body was found. Many people attended the service where a moving ceremony took place including the lighting of a candle.
The service was organised by Graaff-Reinet resident Wilma Grootboom, in whose home Faulkner was a lodger during his stay in Graaff-Reinet.
At the time of his murder he had only been in town for three weeks.
Anyone who is able to make a contribution to cover the cost of transporting Faulkner’s body to his home town of Jeffreys Bay and the funeral in the seaside town, can contact Mrs Grootboom on 074 404 6146.
