GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The annual non-profit Acasia Street project, which sees this street in Kroonvale transformed into a Christmas wonderland, managed to raise R21 500 for the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association.
The money was handed to the association on Friday 21 February.
Local residents, visitors and tourists visited the street between 15 December and 1 January, where they were met with beautiful houses, decorated in the spirit of Christmas. Project committee members and volunteers, dressed in festive attire, helped collect donations from the visitors.
"We are very grateful for the donation, especially during these difficult economic times," said Maxie van Aswegen, chairperson of the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association. She says the money will be used for patient support.
"When they have to go to the hospital in Port Elizabeth, we buy them food parcels," she explained, adding that other expenditures include home-based care, diapers and food.
