GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Due to Covid-19, the beloved Graaff-Reinet Acacia Street Annual Project (ASAP) will unfortunately not take place this year.
This Christmas light project, which has brought joy to locals and visitors alike since 1999, hopes to still raise much-needed funds for the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association.
"The entire street discussed whether we should go ahead with the project, but everyone voted against it," explained one of the organisers, Jacob Daniels. During the event, which was to kick off on 16 December, people flock to Acacia Street, where locals decorate their homes with breathtaking lights and Christmas decorations.
"We need to protect our street's people, many of which are older folk, as well as our locals," explained Daniels about the decision.
Locals and businesses who usually support the project financially are still encouraged to do so, as all proceeds will go to the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association.
"Thank you to our kind donors who have already donated," said Daniels. His message to locals this Christmas is to remain hopeful. "Place your trust in God. He is our light."
For those who would like to donate to the project, the banking details are as follows:
- Bank: ABSA
- Account name: ASAP
- Account number: 9190014029
- Branch: Graaff-Reinet
