ABERDEEN NEWS - Two businesses in Aberdeen were victims of crime in the last two weeks.
Electrical goods were taken from a business on the corner of Grey Street and Meintjies Street during a housebreaking and theft incident on 27 March.
No arrests have yet been made.
On 2 April, during a brazen robbery, the till was stolen from a business in Porter Street. Four suspects entered the shop when there were no other customers, and one threatened the cashier with a knife while another took the till.
The cashier tried to fight them, but was unsuccessful, and the men ran off with the till containing about R8 000 in cash. The empty till was later recovered alongside the N9 towards Graaff-Reinet.
A housebreaking and theft case was reported after an outbuilding at a house in Darling Street was broken into, sometime during the night of 31 March. The lock on the garage was broken off, and golf clubs, spanners and other tools were taken.
The total value was estimated at approximately R5 700. There are no suspects at this stage.
Arrests were made in two cases of assault GBH this week, and both men have appeared in court for the first time.
A case of robbery was opened after three suspects stopped two men walking along Bacon Street near the Masakhane Clinic last Thursday afternoon. The suspects asked one man for matches, and one man took out a knife, threatening to stab the victim but fortunately only scratching his chest. The suspects took R20 from one man’s hand, and a further R30 from his pocket. An arrest is expected soon in this case.
There were two more housebreaking and theft cases in the last week, both during the night of 7 April. One happened in Zuma Avenue, Thembalesizwe. The householder went to sleep just after midnight, but was woken by a strange noise, which sounded like a person moving around, at about 05:00. She woke her husband who shouted out, and noticed that the front door was wide open.
On further investigation, the couple discovered that the cardboard covering of the bathroom window had been forced off. A flat-screen television, which had been under the bed in the spare room, as well as two leather jackets and other items of clothing, were missing.
The other incident occurred in Carnation Street, Lotusville. A man brought his belongings from Port Elizabeth in a truck, and while he was unloading, four unknown men offered to assist him.
Once all was offloaded, the man went to his sister’s house in Darling Street to sleep. When he went back to his house at 08:00 on Sunday morning, he noticed that the security gate and wooden front door had been forced open.
A knife with a taped handle was found by the door. A flat screen television was missing from the house.
