GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association celebrated its 50th anniversary on 19 September, with tickets for the evening sold out.
The milestone event took place at the St. James Hall of the Anglican Church.
The programme included a captivating talk by guest speaker Johannes de Villiers, a journalist and joy researcher known for hosting the "Die Blydskapnavorser" programme on RSG every Wednesday.
De Villiers entertained the audience with his research on the pursuit of happiness, sharing insights into what brings joy to people's lives. He expressed his fascination with individuals who consistently radiate happiness and offered advice on training one's brain to embrace a more joyful existence.
During the celebration, the association paid tribute to its founder, Tweet de la Harpe, for her unwavering dedication and hard work over the years. De la Harpe expressed her gratitude, acknowledging that the committee owed its existence to the commitment of volunteers and members who tirelessly supported the association's mission.
She extended her thanks to the committee members who had contributed to the organisation's growth and recognised the generosity of Graaff-Reinet residents and other contributors.
André van Rensburg from Our Yard volunteered to oversee the meal preparation and service, receiving support from caterers Madeleine Boucher, Quintinn van Rensburg, owner of Hoofmaal and Schoonhuid, and Bluma Carr. The guests were also treated to beautiful music by local musicians.
