GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Scammers posing as door-to-door donation collectors are making the rounds in Graaff-Reinet with bogus donation forms.
These individuals claim to be collecting on behalf of Camdeboo Hospice.
While the hospice is in fact currently collecting donations in aid of their Hike and Hobble fundraising initiative to be held in May, residents are advised to ensure that the donation form presented to them, is in fact, the genuine document.
Hospice management was informed of the scam when the tricksters approached a hospice board member with the falsified form.
The board member in question immediately confiscated the form, which was then given to the local police who are investigating the matter.
Susan van der Linde, the manager at Camdeboo Hospice, urges all community members to ensure that the form presented to them features the original hospice stamp and her original signature.
The counterfeit form had a hospice logo glued to it.
"These scammers fraudulently made money from the public and unfortunately did so by affiliating themselves with Camdeboo Hospice", says Van der Linde. "These individuals are deceiving the public into thinking they are making donations which would help our patients. Instead, they were cashing in on the public goodwill and using the money for their own personal gain."
This isn't the first time a hospice scam was perpetrated - anyone who doubts the authenticity of a collection form or fundraising drive can contact the hospice's manager at 076 510 1042 to inquire whether they are in fact busy with such a project.
