GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — In the last two weeks, police in Graaff-Reinet have made progress in their fight against drugs with several successful raids.
A huge amount of both tik and Mandrax have been seized, as well as 3kg of dagga, which alone is worth an estimated R5 000.
During raids on illegal shebeens in Kroonvale, 500 litres of liquor has been confiscated. A total of ten raids over the period all yielded very satisfactory results.
Several arrests have also been made for cases of theft out of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, housebreaking and theft as well as assault.
About a month ago, a local member from SAPS was also dismissed after being found in possession of stolen property. This case is still under investigation.
As a result of an increase in crime, the police are now doing 24-hour patrols to increase their visibility to the public, and Colonel Siyaya herself will be donning a uniform and joining the patrols next week. She has promised that the police will be more forthcoming and share information with the community more, using the Advertiser, as “the public are our eyes and ears - we need their help."
