ABERDEEN — There were three cases of housebreaking and theft in the last week, two in Aberdeen town and one in Thembalesizwe.
The first occurred sometime between July 28 and August 1, when two lamps, valued at R400, were stolen from the outside of a house in Cathcart Street. The case is still under investigation.
Luxolo Intermediate School in Luxolo Street, Thembalesizwe, was broken into at the end of last week. Three offices were affected, with windows broken or panes of glass removed. Food was taken, but it has not yet been ascertained exactly how much.
The third case happened during Sunday afternoon or evening, when the owner was at work. He arrived home just before midnight and discovered that the security gate and wooden door had both been forced open. His safe had been ripped out of the wall, and the safe itself, as well as a firearm, two magazines and R3 000 cash which had been locked inside, were all taken. A Lenovo laptop was also taken.
On Sunday, July 31, two men were assaulted and robbed of a music box worth R200. The men were walking in Springbok street, Lotusville, when they were approached by the suspect, who stabbed them with a pair of sheep shears and ran off with the music box. A case of robbery and assault (GBH) has been opened, which is still under investigation.
A case of theft out of a motor vehicle was opened on Sunday, August 7. The complainant was collecting pots and crockery for a funeral from a house in De Jager Street, Lotusville, and left his car parked in the street while he was busy loading. When he came out to the car, he discovered that a pair of boots, a t-shirt and a “hoodie” jacket were missing- all brand new, and bought for his child. There are no suspects at this stage.
A woman living alone in Thembalesizwe has opened a case of assault by threatening after receiving a series of worrying phone calls. Initially she contacted a helpline in connection with a legal matter, but shortly after this she started receiving calls from an unknown man, asking for her bank details. When she refused, he threatened her, saying that he knew that she lived alone, and phoned her repeatedly. The case is still under investigation.
The final case, of reckless and negligent driving, was opened after a young man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. It appears that he lost control on a farm road and fell into a ditch, injuring his head -he was not wearing a helmet. He was found on Tuesday, August 2, and it is thought that the accident had happened the previous day. He was taken by ambulance to Port Elizabeth with serious injuries.
